After reading about the new GLS price hike, I decided to check out the current Mercedes line up, as I am not as familiar with it as I was a few years ago.

While checking out the new G class I noticed one particular option. For only $2,200 you get to increase your top speed 12 miles per hour! That's roughly $183 per mph and nothing else. Because 137 mph just wasn't fast enough. This is up there with American sized cup holders I remeber seeing on the Levante a little while back.

Worst new car option? Block heaters. They should be standard in Canada, dammit!

Do you think they even change anything or do they just tell the guy that his SUV is faster now? It's not like they'd ever know.

Illuminated grille star at any price has to be up there, at least for me.

MB’s illuminated grille logo takes the cake, especially for the smaller models. Nothing screams luxury like an illuminated star on a car that doesn’t even have Bluetooth or rear seat A/C vents.

You’d have to be nuts to go anywhere near that fast in a G.

The monthly lease on a new Mercedes-Benz...that's a terrible option

Really? 149 mph is crazy person speed in a G wagon? I mean, 90mph feels sketchy in my Jeep, but I’m on 33” 10 plies with straight axles, Chrysler engineering and Toledo build quality. I would thing a G wagon with road oriented suspension and performance tires would be fine at those speeds.

You’d know better than me, I just figured with their target buyer, these would be a little more stable at speed.

Couldn’t agree more. It looks so gaudy and tacky, regardless of which model it’s on.

I’ve seen my share of them on the road and they truly look like something a high school kid added to his car from the JCWhitney catalog. It’s really, really bad.

And the expensive Mercedes-Benzes don’t have the option for it , they have  Distronic (i.e. adaptive cruise) instead , I think.

You still can't beat physics. That thing is still a tall Brick. It's probably "better" than the Jeep in that respect but at 100+ it's gonna start getting sketchy.

They’re better than Jeeps for sure. And admittedly I haven't driven the new G yet. But the old one was still basically 70's straight axles and steering box with really wide tires. Our roads are very badly rutted out from studded tires and shit highway maintenance. Not good with a G.
